Nevada Pediatric Mental Health Care Access Program (PMHCAP)
On this Page
Significant mental health service gaps exist for children in Nevada;
particularly children living in the rural regions of Nevada. The percentage of the
population receiving mental health services is dramatically lower in Nevada than the
U.S. national average. In 2013, 4.8 per 1,000 children 0-12 years of age in Nevada
received less mental health services compared to the national rate of 21.4 per 1,000
(NV Comprehensive Gaps Analysis of Behavioral Health Services, 2013). For younger
children, only 20% of those under age 6 receive developmental screenings in Nevada,
much lower than the national average of 30%.
The Pediatric Mental Health Care Access Program (PMHCAP) uses telehealth
strategies like Mobile Crisis Response teams to expand mental health services for
children in Nevada.
