Description: Mutual support groups whose members are individuals who have a substance use disorder or any of a number of behavioral addictions which are akin to substance-related disorders in clinical expression, brain origin, comorbidity, physiology and treatment. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; provide emotional support, information and resources to help those who participate modify their behavior; and may include faith-based and secular 12-step groups as well as non-12 step groups. Victims of alcohol-related crashes or family of victims are assisted with court procedures, trauma, and community resources, following a crash. Also available are speakers to give talks on the dangers of drunk driving and the ramifications it could have on someone's life. MADD also has a Victim Impact Panel for offenders, on the 1st Wednesday of every month. This is a court-ordered program. Information brochures are available on such topics as helping children cope with a death, victim trauma and injuries, the criminal justice system, and the dangers of drunk driving. The "Red Ribbon" campaign sponsored by MADD is used to remind people not to drink and drive. A red ribbon is placed on car antennas as the reminder.
