Services Provided: Description:
The Idaho Foodbank is an independent, nongovernmental, nonprofit organization. It has worked with partner nonprofits to distribute free emergency food to individuals and families in need for more than 25 years. This network of more than 200 partners consists of emergency food pantries, community kitchens, shelters and programs that collectively work together to relieve hunger in Idaho.

More than a statewide distribution system, the Foodbank provides programs that serve an important role in communities that lack resources for hungry families and children. These programs include:

Backpack Program: supplies nutrition to school children who would otherwise go hungry over the weekend.
Mobile Pantry Program: provides food to rural Idaho and other areas that lack emergency food services.
Grocery Alliance Program: partners with grocery stores and supermarkets to provide fresh,
nutritious food.
Picnic in the Park: provides nutrition for children who struggle with hunger during the summer months, when the school lunches they depended on are unavailable.
Beef Counts: an innovative program established and endorsed by the Idaho Cattle Association, The Idaho Cattlewomen Council, Agri Beef Co., and the Idaho Beef Council. It provides fresh beef into the Foodbank network.
The Idaho Foodbank’s primary sources of funding are individual donations, grants and corporate donations. It accepts food donations from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, community and corporate food drives, and through the national Feeding America network. Tax-deductible cash donations are critical to underwrite the costs to acquire, transport, warehouse and distribute food across the state of Idaho.

Food Pantry
The Meridian Food Bank was created to serve the people in our community who are facing the challenge of not having enough food for themselves and their families. In 2018, we distributed over one million pounds of food to help more than 19,500 households in need throughout the Treasure Valley.

Backpack Program
The Meridian Food Bank sponsors a backpack food program for the West Ada School District. Many students who receive reduced-price or free lunches come from situations where food is scarce, and they need extra food assistance. Our program gives qualifying students a backpack each Friday filled with enough food for six meals and two snacks to ensure that they have food to eat over the weekend. In 2018 we distributed over 19,000 backpacks.

The CATCH program - Charitable Assistance To Community's Homeless" in Boise and Caldwell- primarily assists homeless families with children younger than 18. The program is also available to young adults, ages 18 to 22, who are aging out of foster care.
**How CATCH program works? - The case manager will work with four shelters (Hope's Door, Lighthouse Rescue Mission, Salvation Army and Valley Crisis), as well as with WICAP, to receive referrals for families that meet the program qualifications. Once a family is determined to be eligible, that family will sign a lease directly with a landlord and CATCH of Canyon County will pay the rent, with funds donated by businesses, faith-based organizations, private individuals and stimulus dollars.
