Services Provided: The Not-So-Gah-Nee Health Clinic is a 28,915 square foot out-patient clinic, which opened October 9, 1990. Clinic offices include: Out-patient Clinic, Dental, Pharmacy, Lab, X-ray, Optometry, Podiatry, Audiology and Contract Health Services. Over 50,000 patients are seen yearly. The Health Center employs 4 Physicians, 1 Physician Assistant, 3 Nurse Practitioners, 4 LPN’s, 6 Registered Nurses, 1 Clinical Social Worker, 2 MSW’s, 2 BSW’s, 1 Nutritionist, 2 Health Educators, 3 Dentists, 1 Dental Hygienist, Lab technicians, Optometrist and technician, 2 Psychologists, and a Mental Health technician. These positions are tribal and federal hires (IHS). Tribal Health Programs include the following: Health Administration, Maternal and Child Health, Public Health Nurse, Preventive Health, First Responder, Community Health Representatives (CHR), Counseling & Family Services (CFS), Victims of Crime Assistance (VOCA), Social Services, Elderly Nutrition, Youth Transitional Living Center (YTLC), Recreation, and Chemical Dependency (TCDP). The Indian Health Service (IHS) includes the following: Dental, Environmental Health Services, and Women, Infants & Children. The total population is 6,000.
The Tribal Health and Human Services Department initiated the concept of a “Wellness Center” in their 2000 strategic plan, as requested by the tribal community. In 2006, the Council approved the university-researched feasibility study to assess how a Wellness Center would serve the community’s health needs and disparities, among them, heart disease and diabetes.

Services Provided: Nimiipuu Health has two locations to serve Native Americans on the Nez Perce Reservation; one at Lapwai and one at Kamiah. The Community Health Department umbrellas a variety of programs including the Community Health Representatives, WIC and Nutrition, Maternal Child Health, Public Health Nursing, Diabetes and th Wellness Center which provides acupuncture, massage and exercise.

A variety of services are offered, skilled nursing visits, home visits for prenatal and post natal care, case management and discharge planning and transportation. The diabetes program offers multiple choices for people with diabetes including vision care, foot care and diabetic shoe service, a Registered Dietician and Nurse Educator. The Diabetes Program includes a variety of prevention programs to aid people in making lifestyle changes including healthy eating and becoming more physically active.

The Coeur d'Alene Indian Tribe has a current enrollment of 1,753. The tribe has sovereign authority on a reservation covering 345,000 acres of mountains, lakes, timber and farmland, spanning the western edge of the northern Rocky Mountains and the abundant Palouse country.

The Tribe, like all tribes in America, has a government based on executive, legislative and judicial branches. The tribal council has seven members and operates on a parliamentary system, with members elected by tribal vote and the chairman elected by vote on the council. Although he or she would serve as chief executive, the chairman has one vote on the council and does not have veto power.

Services Provided: Owyhee Community Health Facility provides hospital, clinic, dental, mental health, and community health services. They have a diabetes clinic scheduled for Wednesday mornings where they provide blood sugar testing, screening of medication, and education. Education includes: foot care, eye care, pancreas, medication, signs of poor circulation, and diet. Diet education/counseling is done by the dietician. If needed, Community Health Facility makes referrals for beneficiaries.
